There are many kinds of meditation arising from all sorts of traditions across the world. Whatever the different techniques and methods, however, meditation is, most fundamentally, a healing practice.
Meditation can be practised alone or in a group; it can be accompanied by a mantra, or it can be 'guided'.
As a practitioner of Guided Meditation, I use, amongst other things, breath control and visualisation. The aim is to assist healing and it is well established that both mind and body want to heal themselves.
I also use my harp during guided meditation sessions. People say that it helps them to become peaceful and calm.
